What I Don’t Like About A2Hosting…

Hostingmanual.net’s A2Hosting review here is the most exhaustive I’ve seen. Mine won’t be as detailed.I want to share with you the good and bad so you can decide if this is the best host for you. The biggest thing that can be a downfall in terms of A2Hosting is the fact that they only offer shared hosting. If you are just starting out and don’t have a lot of traffic coming to your website this is not a problem.

However, if your website grows into a high traffic website you will need to switch hosts as you will then need a VPS or dedicated server.

Another thing I don’t care too much for is the unmetered storage space and bandwidth. Unmetered basically means there are no set limits. However, there is still a “normal usage” amount that you must stay within. This normal limit is determined by A2Hosting through regular statistical analysis. According to A2Hosting 99.95% of customers fall into the “normal usage” range.

Those who fall outside of the “normal usage” range are usually using their website to store and share files rather than hosting.

With that being said, it is your responsibility to make sure you stay within the CPU and disk usage policies set forth by A2Hosting. If you do not they have the right to suspend your account.

Here are some specific limitation A2Hosting has in place when it comes to server resources usage:

  • Use twenty-five percent (25%) or similar part of the system resources for ninety (90) seconds or less. Activities that are mainly responsible for includes: CGI scripts, PHP, FTP, HTTP, etc.
  • Run cron entries while making sure of intervals of not more than fifteen (15) minutes.
  • Run any MySQL prompt queries for more than fifteen (15) seconds. MySQL tables should be indexed appropriately.
  • The use of more than two hundred and fifty thousand (250,000) inodes on any shared or reseller account may result in a warning, and if no action is taken to reduce the excessive use of inodes, your account may be suspended.

It can also be found in the A2Hosting terms of service by visiting https://www.A2Hosting.com/terms.

The last thing that doesn’t sit too well with me is the high renewal price. Yes, you may be able to get started for only $2.75 a month, but once your term expires the price will increase to $5.98 per month for three years.
